In 1980 Utah ranked 5th nationally in voter turnout, but in 2016 the state ranked 39th. Voter turnout has been habitually low in Utah (2018 turnout aside, as high polling numbers were attributed in large part to special circumstances of items on that ballot). According to Nov. 2016 U.S. Census data, there are 288,000 women in Utah who are citizens but unregistered to vote. BUT we can turn that around!
VOTERISE(a Utah-based nonpartisan, 501 (C)(3) nonprofit) is working to boost voter turnout across the state by registering people of any political affiliation to vote. Voterise focuses on educating, empowering, and engaging Utah’s 18-29 year-olds. They also have a special initiative for women called the Voterise 2020 Challenge, with a goal of recruiting 1,000 Ambassadors to each commit to registering 20 young women in Utah to vote.
