The Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) is a roadmap for Rocky Mountain Power to follow in order to provide reliable and cost-efficient electric service to all of their customers. The IRP is updated every two years and is developed with considerable involvement from the public.
The 2019 IRP is currently being developed, and the next public meeting is on June 20th and 21st. YOU can attend to give your public comments on what should and should not be included in the IRP and from what sources our energy in Utah should be generated.

WHAT TO DO

  • Attend the next public IRP meeting on Thursday, June 20th, and Friday, June 21st, from 9:00am to approximately 4:00pm at the Rocky Mountain Power office on North Temple. Members of the public can ask questions or give public comments.

Should we retire four power-generating coal units early?
In preparation for creating the new IRP, Rocky Mountain Power performed an economic study of its coal fleet to determine if customers would benefit from closing one or more units earlier than initially planned. The study found that Units 1 and 2 at the Naughton plant and Units 1 and 2 at the Jim Bridger plant, both in Wyoming, will be less economic to operate beyond 2022 than alternatives. The company acknowledges that closing these units early would affect the plant employees and the local communities and strives to keep all parties informed and involved in the process. No decisions have been made yet regarding the early retirement of these four units, and it will be discussed in the meetings before the IRP is filed on August 1st.
